Katena Products, Inc., headquartered in Denville, NJ, is an innovation-driven, medical technology company serving the eye care community. Founded in 1975 as a premier provider of ophthalmic instruments for surgical and in-office applications, Katena has maintained its quality standards while expanding its product portfolio to include biologics, diagnostic lenses, punctum plugs, and devices for glaucoma and corneal surgery.
Our Mission is to create clinical and economic value by applying research, design, manufacture, sale and service of ophthalmic instruments, biologics, and devices to maintain or restore sight.
Katena was founded in 1975 by Kate Tiedemann with the realized mission of producing the finest quality surgical instruments
serving the eye care industry. The company thrived under Ms. Tiedemann's leadership, expanding
its capabilities and reach through a network of sales representation in the United States.
Katena gained global recognition through its distribution network, and reaches over 110
countries today. Ms. Tiedemann continued to lead Katena until her retirement in 2009,
an extraordinary 34-year history of success. Today, Katena Products Inc. has expanded
outside its core instrument business to include biologics, diagnostic lenses, punctal
plugs and more, while keeping within its mission to serve both surgeon and patient in
advancing ocular health and ophthalmic surgical outcomes.
What we do
Katena is world renowned for producing instruments of consistently excellent quality that have become the industry standard. We develop innovative instruments for new surgical techniques and advances in the field of ophthalmology under the Katena brand name
Katena provides the following ophthalmic biologics under these brands:
AmbioDisk and AmbioSurg: Dehydrated amniotic membrane to support the treatment of ocular surface disease and defects. These brands are the market leader in dehydrated products in this space
Tutoplast: Tutoplast-processed patch allografts designed to assist the surgeon during glaucoma drainage device surgery and oculoplastic procedures. Tutoplast is recognized as the brand leader in this product category.
Katena provides the following ophthalmic devices under these brands:
Barron: Single use corneal trephines and punches for use. Barron represents the finest quality devices for keratoplasty procedures.
EagleVision: Punctum plugs, flow controllers, and other products to treat dry eye disease. EagleVision is the leading brand in this product category.
Molteno: Glaucoma drainage devices. Molteno is a recognized innovator in the glaucoma implant segment.
Katena introduces a disruptive new technology to this traditional product category –
Cost-effective single use lenses for the operating room that provide exceptional views while limiting the risk of disease transmission. Reusable lenses for the clinic utilizing new materials and manufacturing processes that provide exceptional visualization and reduced costs.
Mark Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer & President
Mark joined the company in February of 2017. Prior to joining Katena, he was the Senior Vice-President and President of the Surgical Technologies division of Medtronic from 1999 through 2016. Mark helped lead Xomed Surgical Products, a market leading otolaryngology device company from 1994-1999. The company led a successful IPO in 1996 then sold to Medtronic in 1999. He also had several senior leadership positions with Stryker, a leading orthopedic company from 1984 to 1994.
Robert Earley, Chief Financial Officer
Bob became Chief Financial Officer for Katena in April 2017. Most recently Bob was CFO of Laborie Medical Technologies, a Toronto, Ontario based medical device manufacturer. Prior to Laborie, Bob was President and CFO for Bridgeport Tank Trucks, a Texas based oil field services company. Bob has a finance degree from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Case Western Reserve.
Sheri Embleton, Executive Vice-President, Operations
Sheri joined the company in November of 2016. Prior to joining Katena, she was the Vice-President of Strategic Initiatives for Laborie Medical Technologies in Mississauga, ON Canada. Sheri has held various senior leadership positions within the medical device field with a focus on Operations and significant M&A activity.
Raj Yerasi, Vice-President, Strategic Planning
Raj joined the company in September of 2016. Prior to joining Katena, Raj served as a finance/data analytics consultant for a number of companies, including Laborie Medical Technologies. He started his career as an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and subsequently worked at a variety of investment funds as a buyside analyst/portfolio manager, investing in both public & private companies.
William R. Grotevant, Vice-President, Human Resources
Bill joined the company in March of 2017. Prior to joining Katena, he was Director, Global Human Resources for Medtronic Advanced Energy in Portsmouth, NH. Bill also has held the positions of Global Director HR for Nypro Healthcare GBU and Eastern Regional Business Partner for Boston Scientific. He has significant international HR experience having supported medical device operations in China, Mexico, Ireland, France and Germany.
David Damm, Vice-President, Sales
David joined the company in September 2017. Most recently, David was with Medtronic where he held several commercial leadership positions including vice president / general manager Global Services, vice president marketing and vice president sales. Prior to Medtronic, David held leadership roles in sales and marketing with Stryker Corporation.
Gordon Dahl, Vice-President of Marketing
Gordon has played a significant sales, marketing, and product development role at Katena since joining the company in 1995. Prior to joining Katena, Gordon served as a marketing analyst for IMS America, a division of Dunn & Bradstreet. Gordon has worked closely with surgeons to develop instruments to advance anterior segment surgery technique. He started at Katena as a Director of Sales & Marketing, eventually elevating to the role of Vice-President of Sales & Marketing. As the company continued to grow, the sales and marketing roles were split, creating Gordon's current role as Vice-President, Marketing.
